Shin Splints Treat This Condition with Active Isolated Stretching

Shin splints are defined as micro-tears to the muscle fibers and bone of the lower leg.Most commonly they are prevalent in those who are performing activities such as walking, running, tennis or activities where you are asked to be on your feet for long periods of time.Most individuals who suffer from shin splints have very tight calf muscles. When looking at the tightness of the calf you have to stretch not only the gastrocnemius muscle but also the soleus muscle as well. Both work in conjunction with each other for the function of the extension of the foot during walking.

Benefits of Using AIS

You may want to stretch the achilles tendon as well. When the calf is tight it causes the anterior tibialis muscle to be overstretched during extension causing the pain to the lower leg. To help with shin splints you will want to ice the lower shin muscles to help with the pain.
